Writing for Publication Workshop I A     22 September 2011 (1630 - 1730)
Writing for Publication Workshop I B     23 September 2011 (1545 - 1700)

Writing for publication:
A workshop for more experienced authors and researchers

Facilitator: Professor Alison J. Tierney
PhD, FRCN, CBE: Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Advanced Nursing (published by Wiley-Blackwell)

This workshop is aimed at participants who are familiar with the ‘basics’ of the publishing process, and know basically how to prepare an article for publication, and instead it focuses on some of the more challenging issues for more experienced authors and researchers.

The workshop will address the following topics:

  • Deciding where to publish, including decisions about multiple publications (and multi-authorship) from a large or complex study or an ongoing research program
  • What is Open Access (OA) publishing, and does it bring benefits?
  • Understanding Impact Factor and how to maximise the impact of your own publications and improve your own citation rate
  • Writing for an international readership and aspiring to 'international excellence'

The workshop will be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, but with opportunity for participants to contribute, and with time at the end for open questions and discussion.
