Congratulations to our Master of Nursing Science (Pre-registration) (MNSP) Year 1 and 2 students, Ms. Man-yin Suen, Ms. Wai-shan Wong, Ms. Hiu-yi Yeung, Ms. Rainbow Ching-kwan Chan, Ms. Bonny Ying Chow and Ms. Jenny Tsz-ying Lau on receiving the ‘Excellent Clinical Performance Awards 2016-17’! It was our honour to have our School Director Professor Sek-ying Chair to present the awards to the students on 11 September 2017. The award is presented to a maximum of three MNSP students of each year to recognise their excellent clinical performance.

Orientation Day 2017 (Professional Diploma Programme in Advanced Nursing Practice)

The Orientation Day for the Professional Diploma Programme in Advanced Nursing Practice was held on 6 September 2017. Our School Director Prof. Sek-ying Chair delivered the welcoming speech to new students; Programme Director Prof. Iris Lee, Chief Year Coordinator Ms. Civy Leung, and Specialty Coordinator Ms. Connie Keung gave a detailed overview of the programme curriculum. One of the special features this year is, in addition to Management and Leadership in Nursing, the programme has introduced three study streams, namely, Perioperative Nursing, Medical Nursing, Oncology Nursing to the programme. This was a great opportunity for the students to meet with the teaching team and classmates from different specialty areas. The School wishes all students a wonderful start to the new academic year!

The Orientation Day for the Master of Nursing Programme was held on 1 September 2017. More than 25% of the students were our graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing Programme. Our School Director Prof. Sek-ying Chair and Prof. Doris Yu, Vice-Director of Research and Head of Graduate Division, delivered welcoming speeches to the new students; and Programme Director Prof. Helen Chan gave a detailed overview of the programme. Through the Orientation Day, the students had the opportunity to meet the teaching team to have inspiring sharing, and to enhance their understanding of the programme. The School wishes all students a fruitful and delightful year!

Each of our Bachelor of Science in Gerontology (BScG) students will be presented with a BScG badge for wearing during the gerontological practicum and exchange programmes, so as to symbolise their commitment to delivering holistic aged care services to older adults and promoting gerontology to the public.

Ocamp 2017 - Meeting with Academic Advisors

The Academic Advisory System aims to help newly admitted students to adapt and adjust to their university life. 7 BN Advisors, including Dr. Helen Chiang, Dr. Elaine Siow, Ms. Anastasia Lam, Miss Pinky Lee, Ms. Silvia Tong, Miss Cora Li and Ms. Venee Lam, and a BScG Advisor, Ms. Renee Lau, joined the Ocamp on 19 August 2017 to meet the freshmen to establish their contact.

Our School was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by the The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council Tung Chung Integrated Service Centre on 19 August 2017 for the active participation of our 9 Bachelor of Nursing (BN) and 5 Bachelor of Science in Gerontology (BScG) students in the elderly visits on Lantau Island. During the ceremony, Prof. Doris Yu was invited to deliver a speech; and our BN Year 3 student Ms. Deborah Yan was invited to be the MC to share the passion of our students for voluntary services.

Congratulations to our Bachelor of Nursing Year 2 student, Ms. Choi Lai Hung on receiving “the most cutest smile award” from the photography competition, which organized by the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council Tung Chung Integrated Service Centre. During the competition, student could understand the message of harmonious family and overcoming challenges.

Ms. Esther Yiu, Associate Director and Ms. Wai-ching Tung, Senior Education & Project Officer of the Nethersole Institute of Continuing Holistic Health Education (NICHE) were invited to participate in our BN & BScG Ocamp Opening Ceremony on 16 August 2017. During the ceremony, they shared the history of the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Charity Foundation and development of the health care system in Hong Kong. We hope our freshmen can inherit the Nethersole spirit to provide holistic care with compassionate love.

More than 250 freshmen, students and teachers participated in the BN & BScG Ocamp Opening Ceremony at William M.W. Mong Engineering Building on 16 August 2017. Thanks go to Ka-man Tam, Lai-kin Wong and Hei-yiu Ma for leading 29 Organising Committee Members and 118 Executive Committee Members to successfully organise such a great Opening Ceremony. 7 teachers also joined the ceremony to support and welcome the freshmen to our family. The Opening Ceremony marked the start of the Ocamp. Enjoy and have fun!

Welcome to the family of the CUHK Nethersole School of Nursing!

The Ocamp 2017 was successfully held from 16 to 19 August 2017. Big thanks again to the Organising Committee and Executive Committee Members for organising this Camp to extend our warmest welcome to all BN and BScG freshmen. During the camp, the freshmen made new friends and strengthened their bonding via exciting games and activities. The camp was full of joy and laughter. Bachelor of Nursing Programme Buddy Scheme Session 2017-18

A sharing session on the Buddy Scheme was successfully held for this year’s senior year intake students of our Bachelor of Nursing Programme on 11 August 2017. This scheme aims at offering them with peer support in adaption to the university life. This year eight students (admitted via senior year intakes), including Grace Wing-yan Chan, Yan-ling Cheng, Yu-hin Chong, Siu-to Suen, Yi-ting Yiu, Tsz-ling Lam, Wai-ting Ng and Wing-yan Wong, were recruited as buddies to share their learning experience and campus life with the senior freshmen.

Dr. WANG Qun won the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation in Behavioral Health Award 2017 by the Hong Kong Society of Behavioral Health

Congratulations to Dr. WANG Qun, our 2015 PhD in Nursing graduate (admitted via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme) and currently the School’s Postdoctoral Fellow, for winning the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation in Behavioural Health Award 2017.  The award was established by the Hong Kong Society of Behavioural Health in 2015  to recognise the importance of behavioural health research and to encourage young researchers to engage in behavioural health research. Submitted dissertations are judged mainly on their contribution to behavioural health, in addition to originality of work, significance and implications of results, clarity of presentation and quality of writing. The award is presented to a maximum of two applicants per year.

The Orientation Day for the Master of Nursing Science (Pre-registration) Programme was held on 7 August 2017 to welcome the 77 new students to our family. Our School Director Prof. Sek-ying Chair delivered a welcoming speech and introduced the School to the students; and the Programme Director Prof. Janet Sit, along with the Year Coordinators, gave a detailed overview of the programme. The students not only had the opportunity to meet their classmates, but also their teachers to facilitate their first contact.

The Orientation Day for this year’s 12 new Doctor of Nursing (DN) students was held on 2 August 2017. Some of these students are senior nurses in the position of Advanced Practice Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Ward Manager. Our School Director Prof. Sek-ying Chair and Prof. Doris Yu, Vice-Director of Research and Head of Graduate Division delivered welcoming speeches to the new students; and Programme Director Prof. Winnie So gave a detailed overview of the programme curriculum and characteristics. New students enjoyed a relaxing day by having a fruitful sharing on learning approaches and campus anecdotes with our staff and doctoral students. The School wishes them a happy new beginning in the company of new friends!

This year, a total of 9 students from around the world were admitted to the programme, including  Hong Kong, the Philippines, Tanzania, and mainland China. Our School Director, Prof. Sek-ying Chair and Prof. Doris Yu, Vice-Director of Research and Head of Graduate Division delivered welcoming speeches to the new students; and Programme Director Prof. Winnie So gave a detailed overview of the programme curriculum and characteristics. Through sharing with our staff and postgraduate students, the new students enriched their understanding of the programme.

Student Exchange: La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia from July to August 2017

5 Bachelor of Nursing Year 2 & 3 students participated in the summer exchange programme to the La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia from 30 July to 5 August 2017. During the exchange, they attended workshops with local students and visited the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and were impressed by their interactive learning approach. The students have enriched their learning experiences and developed cross-cultural insights through sharing with teachers and students from the host institution on local health care systems and nursing education.
