Spring Dinner of Nursing Society

The annual spring dinner organised by the Nursing Society was successfully held on 7 February 2018 at Chung Chi Tang, Chung Chi College, CUHK. Our staff and students enjoyed a wonderful night with impressive dancing performance, entertaining mass games and exciting lucky draw.
Bongo Sin, President of the 24th Proposed Nursing Society, expressed a big thank you to the teachers for their presence and unfailing support, wishing all teachers and students have a happy and prosperous Year of the Dog.

Teaching and Learning Seminar: Social change and nursing

Prof. Sek-ying Chair delivered a seminar on the topic of ‘Social change and nursing’ to our teaching staff on 2 February 2018 to debate on the history and social context of nursing, and to discuss nursing professionalisation and the future direction of nursing development.

Bachelor of Science in Gerontology Graduate Sharing Session 2018

Three BScG graduates, Edith, Kitty and Kate, were invited to share their learning and working experiences with the BScG final year students on 20 January 2018. Through in-depth group discussions, students explored the career prospects in aged care services as well as the needs of further studies.

Meeting with Dr. Tzu-leung Ho

Dr. Tzu-leung Ho, a distinguished urologist and Director of the S. H. Ho Foundation Limited, visited the School on 18 January 2018 and met with Prof. Sek-ying Chair, Prof. Carmen Chan, Prof. Doris Yu and Prof. Janita Chau.

Dr. Ho and his family are very enthusiastic about charitable work in education, health and social welfare, and made substantial contributions to CUHK and the School over the years. With the generous donation from S. H. Ho Foundation Limited, the School established the S. H. Ho Nursing Teaching and Learning Centre in 2013, which aims to provide our students with state-of-the-art e-learning facilities and a highly realistic simulated clinical environment conducive to effective learning and development of patient-centred nursing care competencies.

Inauguration of Bachelor of Science in Gerontology Programme Student Society 2018

The Inauguration Ceremony of the 6th Bachelor of Science in Gerontology Programme Student Society ‘Geronlighter’ was held successfully on 18 January 2018. All members pledged to organise more activities to actively promote gerontology in the coming year.

Academic Visit : Yonsei University, South Korea in January 2018

Prof. Sek-ying Chair and Prof. Doris Yu visited the College of Nursing, Yonsei University, South Korea on 12 January 2018, and met with Prof. Tae-wha Lee, Dean of the College, and other professors to exchange their experiences on teaching and research. During the visit, Prof. Chair and Prof. Lee signed a Memorandum of Academic Cooperation to strengthen collaboration between the two universities.

Congratulations to ‘Geronlighter’ on being elected as the 6th Student Society of the Bachelor of Science in Gerontology Programme at the Annual General Meeting on 11 January 2018! The society will officially assume office after the Inauguration Ceremony to carry on the mission to promote gerontology.

Outstanding Alumnus Mr. Ralph Lee Appointed as Director of University Safety, CUHK

Our Bachelor of Nursing graduate Mr. Ralph Lee has been appointed as Director of University Safety, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He visited the School and met with Prof. Sek-ying Chair, Prof. Carmen Chan, Prof. Doris Yu and Prof. Janita Chau to exchange their experiences and insights into office and laboratory safety, and safety legislation. Mr. Lee will deliver safety seminars to our staff and students.

Dinner with New CUHK Nursing Alumni Association Executive Committee Members

Our School Director and professors had a wonderful dinner with the 14th CUHK Nursing Alumni Association (CUNA) Executive Committee members on 6 December 2017. The members enjoyed Prof. Sek-ying Chair's sharing about the latest School development and achievements. Overcoming different challenges, the School continues to attain new heights in both nursing education, research and practice. 
Our professors were delighted to hear the members sharing the recent development of CUNA and their views on its future development, as well as their experience of nursing practice and specialty education. Both sides echoed their views on the current development of nursing education and the profession. They also brainstormed strategies to strengthen the bonding among alumni and their bonding with the School. The cohesion between the School and the alumni warmed everyone’s heart at that night.

84th Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees

The 84th Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees was held at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 30 November 2017. We had 11 graduates from the Doctor of Nursing Programme and 2 graduates from the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Programme attending the ceremony to celebrate this memorable occasion. Our graduates have further enriched their professional knowledge and research skills to contribute to the nursing services as well as the community, and are going to assume leadership and management roles in governmental organisations, educational institutions, hospitals or other healthcare settings. We wish them all the best in the future!

CUHK Alumni Homecoming 2017

CUHK Alumni Homecoming 2017 was held at CUHK campus on 25 November 2017. CUNA Executive Committee members have worked with the School to arrange various open house activities at Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building, including laboratory tours, sharing by our alumni Dr. Danny Tong and Prof. Janita Chau, lucky draw and tea reception. Through this event, the alumni not only enjoyed a joyful weekend with their families and friends, but also understood more about the latest development of the School.

Moreover, CUNA Executive Committee members and our Bachelor of Nursing graduate Mr. Kai-min Lai set up a CUNA booth at the University Mall. Our alumni and student helpers provided health assessment and information about healthy diet for the visitors, and answered their enquiries enthusiastically at the booth, enhancing the public understanding of healthy eating.

Inbound Student Exchange: Xiang Ya School of Nursing, Central South University, Mainland in November 2017

Seventeen undergraduate nursing students led by four teachers from the Xiang Ya School of Nursing, Central South University, Mainland China visited our School from 20 to 22 November 2017. During the visit, they attended classes with our students, visited our laboratories and joined a campus tour to experience campus life in CUHK.

Eight nursing students from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia joined our Inbound Student Exchange Programme from 20 November to 1 December 2017. During the visit, they attended classes with our students, visited our laboratories, local emergency medical services and an English-speaking elderly home, and joined a campus tour to experience campus life in CUHK.
