Resources and Facilities
To facilitate student learning, a full range of resources and facilities are available in the School and in the University.
Learning Support Facilities
The Chinese University of Hong Kong has a very good library system, with details available from the University Library System website (http://www.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/). There is also a comprehensive stock of books and nursing journals located mainly at the Li Ping Medical Library (in the Prince of Wales Hospital) and the University Library. The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) is open to students to help with study and writing skills. The Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC) offers IT facilities and services to students. In addition, the School offers up-to-date audio-visual equipment, computers and an on-line network. There are also Clinical Learning and Simulation Centres, computer and audio-visual laboratories in the School. They are well equipped to facilities students to acquire and develop clinical and professional skills.
S. H. Ho Nursing Teaching and Learning Centre
The Centre is located at the Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building (BMSB). It comprises a computer laboratory and a Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre to facilitate the use of the advanced e-learning and simulation technologies for effective training of nursing and healthcare professionals.
To provide our students with extensive clinical learning opportunities, the School works closely with a range of hospital and community settings throughout the territory, such as the Prince of Wales Hospital, Shatin Hospital, Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, United Christian Hospital, Cheshire Home, Tai Po Hospital, North District hospital, Haven of Hope Hospital, community clinics, residential care homes and kindergartens.
Student Services and Activities
The University's Office of Student Affairs attends to student welfare and helps students take full advantage of their university education. The services it provided fall mainly into six areas: career planning and development, student development & resources, wellness & counselling, learning and cultural enhancement, support services for students with disabilities and online services. Counselling service in relation to social, psychological, financial, and academic issues are also provided by the Dean of Students' Office at each College.
Nursing Research and Basic Science Laboratory
The Nursing Research and Basic Science Laboratory aims to translate and advance nursing knowledge using the leading molecular tools, and to promote the importance of basic science knowledge in nursing research. With the state-of-the-art instrumentation and expertise, we are able to support, explore and integrate genetic factors, biobehavioral markers and psychosocial factors to advance our research in different biomedical areas, such as cell culture, genotyping, biomarker analysis, microbiome analysis, immunoassay and different biochemical analyses (e.g. cortisol measurement), so as to strengthen basic science elements in our nursing research.
