The Nethersole Nursing Practice Research Unit
The Nethersole Nursing Practice Research Unit established in 2006 is the first “model unit” in Hong Kong to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical protocols, clinical pathways, and clinical, technological and resource innovations in nursing with the purpose of promoting excellence in nursing practice. The Unit has successfully developed a number of evidence-based intervention protocols for older patients. It also provides professional training on evidence-based practice to nursing students and staff from time to time.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong – University of British Columbia International Centre on Nursing Leadership was established in April 2013. The Centre is an initiative pioneered by the nursing schools of both universities to address the immediate and projected needs for the development of effective nurse leaders in Hong Kong and its neighboring regions. The Centre offers a rich array of educational activities including a professional diploma programme in nursing management and leadership, as well as leadership seminars, workshops and forums. It also undertakes leadership research projects with national and international partners.
With the generous donation from the Y. K. Pao Foundation, our School established the Y. K. Pao Foundation Centre for Nursing Excellence in Chronic Illness Care in 2014 to address the rising burden of chronic illnesses and develop the next generation of nurses with the necessary knowledge and skills in chronic illness care (CIC). The Centre offers a scholarship scheme to recognize outstanding nursing students’ scholastic excellence and commitment in CIC; and a nursing student development scheme comprising a range of student-centred activities to strengthen our students’ capacity for CIC. These student-centred activities include a student exchange programme, a PhD fellowship programme, professional development workshops and seminars, etc.
