RESEARCH CENTRES

COCHRANE HONG KONG

Since April, a total of 30 Cochrane Reviews (both abstracts and plain language summaries [PLS]) were translated into Simplified Chinese and the PLS of two additional Cochrane Reviews were translated into Traditional Chinese. All these translations are accessible through the Cochrane Library. Also, the Simplified and Traditional Chinese translations are available on the websites of China Cochrane Network and Cochrane Hong Kong, respectively. Our translation team held two Zoom meetings for members to sharpen their skills on translation and editing through experience sharing, and to reach a consensus regarding consistency in using certain terminologies, prepositions, abbreviations and punctuations, thereby further improving the quality of translation.

We also launched our very first Knowledge Translation Awards this year to encourage and promote the dissemination and application of Cochrane evidence in Hong Kong and beyond.

ASIA-PACIFIC GENOMIC AND GENETIC NURSING CENTRE

The Centre has commenced a project about the use of decision aids to enhance the positive effects of genetic counselling. It involved the conduct of a systematic review to examine the impacts of decision aids on reducing decisional conflicts of genetic counselees in genetic testing, and to explore other related outcomes. In addition, the manuscript of our recent systematic review on genetic susceptibility in pneumoconiosis among Chinese population has been accepted for publication in an international refereed journal.

The ongoing collaborative research project with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on brain-age models for predicting Alzheimer’s Disease is making good progress. The cross-institutional research team (as shown in the photo) has recently held a meeting to discuss actions for further analysing the data from large public datasets to facilitate better construction of the brain-age models.
