We are excited to continue our interview series featuring another awardee, Ms. Ho Yan WONG, a dedicated Lecturer of our School. RESEARCH CENTRES

COCHRANE HONG KONG

Prof. Wai Tong CHIEN and Prof. Janita CHAU, Co-Directors of Cochrane Hong Kong and Co-Chairs of Cochrane Nursing, attended the Cochrane Colloquium held from 4 to 6 September 2023 in London, UK. This colloquium, themed ‘Forward together for trusted evidence’, aimed to explore the challenges for the future around trustworthiness of healthcare data and information, while also celebrating Cochrane’s 30 years of producing trusted evidence.

During the colloquium, Prof. CHAU delivered a poster presentation titled ‘Enhancing knowledge translation through partnerships:  An initiative to improve practice regarding nasogastric tube placement verification’.

In addition, both professors attended the Cochrane Geographic Groups’ meeting and Cochrane Fields Directors’ meeting in London.

ASIA-PACIFIC GENOMIC AND GENETIC NURSING CENTRE

The Centre is currently conducting an ongoing study aiming to explore novel genetic variations found in children with autism. So far, we have collected blood samples from 22 autistic children from 17 families. Genetic analyses are being conducted using the DNA extracted from these samples, and nine of the samples have already been analysed.

Our collaborative research project with PolyU, which aims to examine how brain structures vary with age, is also in progress. Currently, the brain images obtained from 111 participants through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are being analysed, while saliva samples from these participants are being collected to extract DNA for genetic analyses. These findings will enable us to examine the potential correlation between the participants’ genes and brain morphology.
