GIVING TO CUHK NURSING

Our School is dedicated to fostering excellence. Our world-class professorial staff are consistently ranked among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University, with 10 making the latest list. They also continue to be honoured with Fellowships from the American Academy of Nursing, with Prof. Ka Ming CHOW set to be inducted next month.

Our staff and students constantly exceed limits and expectations, impressively balancing work and service while advancing professional growth. Recent standouts include Prof. Suzanne LO, who pioneered a post-stroke hand care social enterprise; and Ms. Angel MA, who excels in her dual roles as Ward Manager and Doctor of Nursing student, earning the 2024 Hospital Authority Outstanding Staff Award and securing funding from a local Future Leaders Incubator Scheme.

Our commitment to instilling a positive mindset on continuous professional development in our future leaders is embodied in recent events, including the networking session for Master of Nursing Fellowships Scheme awardees, and Pass-it-on Ceremony for our nursing freshmen.

It’s a privilege to serve such an exceptional Faculty and School. I’m also deeply humbled to have been recently honoured with two prestigious titles: Outstanding Fellow of the Faculty of Medicine, CUHK and Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing & Midwifery. Reflecting on my journey from a CUHK nursing graduate to School Director, I understand the inevitable challenges that come with growing responsibilities. I sincerely invite you to check out my recent feature interview with Ya Feng (pp. 12-13 [Chinese only]) by the Nethersole Institute of Continuing Holistic Health Education (NICHE), where I’ve shared my thoughts on nurturing the next generation of nurses with greater mental capacity and resilience.

Let’s continue to complement and inspire each other, making this academic year another memorable one.

Wai Tong CHIEN
Director and Professor
