COCHRANE HONG KONG

Since June, a total of 29 Cochrane Reviews (both abstracts and plain language summaries [PLS]) were translated into Simplified Chinese. Three of these translations were posted with self-designed images on Twitter @CochraneNursing. The Cochrane Simplified Chinese Translation and Dissemination Working Group disseminated three PLS through the WeChat Public Platform. All these Simplified Chinese translations are available on the website of Cochrane China Network.

ASIA-PACIFIC GENOMIC AND GENETIC NURSING CENTRE

The Centre is going to conduct a pilot study to explore genetic variants that can be used to identify autism spectrum disorder. This project will use the latest genomic technologies to reveal any genetic variations in the genome of autistic children, and the findings will provide the basis for further studies on the potential of using these genetic variations to facilitate autism diagnosis. Currently, ethics approval is being sought for conducting the study and recruiting autistic children in the community.

Conducting a systematic review on the potential of the use of decision aids to facilitate genetic counselling is currently underway. Literature search has been completed and we are working on the analysis and interpretation of the findings from the included studies.

The study on brain-age models for predicting Alzheimer’s disease in collaboration with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is also underway. Current analyses of the data from large public datasets and the constructed brain-age models support the study hypothesis that the brain age estimated based on structural brain features can predict the subjects’ chronological age, and the predicted age difference is progressively larger in subjects with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. The preliminary findings will be presented at BrainConnects 2022 in early August. Currently, ethics approval is being sought to further explore other aspects of the study, including the examination of whether polygenic risk scores of subjects can improve the brain-age models.
