SPOTLIGHT on Innovative Projects to Support Positive Ageing

Prof. Ken HO has been actively engaging in technology-supported and multi-sectoral projects for positive and healthy ageing. Most recently, he collaborated with the PolyU School of Nursing on an HKICT award-winning music intervention programme using gerontechnology for functional enhancement. He is currently working on a project funded by the Mental Health Initiatives Funding Scheme, aiming to develop a medical-social collaborative programme to mobilise community assets to promote health and wellness of underprivileged senior citizens.

COCHRANE HONG KONG
 

The Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Cochrane Hong Kong and other affiliates in the Cochrane China Network co-hosted the Second Cochrane China Network Symposium; and it was successfully held in a virtual mode on 15 January 2023. With the support of invited guests, including the Cochrane Chief Executive Officer Dr. Catherine Spencer and Cochrane US Network Senior Officer  Ms. Tiffany Duque, as well as many renowned scholars worldwide, this symposium engaged delegates in a fruitful international exchange of evidence-based medicine methodologies.

 

Cochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods, Cochrane's first open access journal, has been accepting submissions since early January this year. Prof. Wai Tong CHIEN is a member of the Editorial Board. In addition, Prof. Janita CHAU involved in reviewing the Campbell Collaboration Disability Coordinating Group Review Protocol. Cochrane Nursing offers support and collaboration with Cochrane Campbell Global Ageing Partnership in the newly established thematic group, Global Ageing.

 
 

 

Since January this year, Cochrane Hong Kong has translated 28 Cochrane Reviews into Simplified Chinese and five into Traditional Chinese, which are now available in the Cochrane Library. The Simplified Chinese translations are also published on the Cochrane China Network website. Besides, we have posted 47 tweets (19 Cochrane Reviews, 24 Cochrane Clinical Answers, and four Chinese translations) via Twitter @CochraneNursing.

ASIA-PACIFIC GENOMIC AND GENETIC NURSING CENTRE

The pilot study exploring the genetic variants for the identification of individuals with autism spectrum disorder is currently underway. Six child participants from four families have been recruited, and blood samples from these participants have been collected for genetic analyses.

The manuscript of the recently completed systematic review on the potential use of decision aids to facilitate genetic counselling has been submitted to a peer-reviewed journal and is currently under review for publication.

 
 

 

The brain-age project, our collaborative project with PolyU, is also in progress. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data from 110 participants have been collected and are being analysed. Saliva samples will also be collected from these participants for genotyping studies.
