FROM RISK TO RESILIENCE —
OUR ONGOING FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

DIRECTOR'S
MESSAGE

Dear friends, colleagues, students, and alumni,

As Hong Kong battles the dreadful and distressful fifth wave of COVID-19 outbreak, I take pride in knowing that many of our staff members, students and alumni have volunteered to support a wide variety of anti-pandemic work in the local communities.

Since 2020, our School has been committed to fighting against the pandemic through active participation in the Universal Community Testing Programme and COVID-19 Vaccination Programme. Recently, we have recruited over 160 staff and alumni to provide inoculation service, and over 130 nursing students to help out in conducting swabbing tests at designated centres. In addition, our Vice-Director of Research Prof. Sek Ying CHAIR, as President of the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing (HKAN), led the HKAN to operate seven community vaccination centres at different periods of time since March 2021, with three centres currently under operation.

Our School's project teams have also made continuous efforts in helping the public cope with difficulties and stresses during this deeply concerning time. In addition to distributions of anti-pandemic supplies (e.g. masks) to those in need, our 'ABCD Shui Chuen O Family Network' project team has also been hosting an ongoing series of health talks and nurse consultation sessions via Zoom. A variety of educational materials have been developed, such as videos to share infection control tips and micro-modules to facilitate outreach services targeting the elders. Moreover, our staff members have participated in answering hotlines run by the Hospital Authority and assisted various non-governmental organisations in developing online resources about preventative measures, vaccines, use of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kits and so forth.

I truly appreciate and express my sincere thanks to all of you for working hand-in-hand with health and social care organisations and their workers, and devoting your time, skills and expertise in fighting the fast-spreading virus together. I am confident that we can come out of this unprecedented health crisis stronger and more resilient than ever. But until then, please stay safe and healthy.

Director and Professor
