ACCELERATING EXCELLENCE IN
EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

DIRECTOR'S
MESSAGE

Dear friends, colleagues, students, and alumni,

While it may still take a while for exclusively face-to-face events to return, our hybrid Joint Graduation Ceremony on 27 July 2022 brought together in-person and virtual participants to celebrate the accomplishments of a total of 344 graduates from our Bachelor of Nursing (BNurs), Master of Nursing Science (Pre-registration) (MNSP), and Bachelor of Science in Gerontology (BScG) programmes. Fostering future talent for the community is always our mission and commitment, and I am glad that we have successfully nurtured over 8,000 graduates in the course of 30 years. Many of our graduates have now assumed leadership positions in the profession, such as Cluster General Manager (Nursing) and Nurse Consultant, making significant contributions to the health and wellbeing of people in Hong Kong and beyond.

CUHK Nursing is internationally recognised as Asia’s best nursing school, indicating our success in delivering world-class nursing education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and innovating through research with far-reaching impact on healthcare quality and outcomes. Our top-quality education and research are bearing fruit by producing graduates with excellent employer reputation, and securing prestigious funding to advance nursing science and facilitate healthcare transformation in local and global contexts.

I am particularly excited to share with you that our research excellence has been recently affirmed by a record high of eight successful General Research Fund (GRF) applications in 2022/23 exercise, with a total funding amount of over HKD8.15 million. This highly competitive GRF scheme funded by Research Grants Council of the University Grants Committee (UGC) plays a significant role in supporting the research development of the eight UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong. Our success in securing eight GRF grants is no doubt a booster to enhance research capacity and influence of our staff, our School, and the University as a whole. We will continue to synergise efforts to explore new funding sources locally and internationally, and at the same time increase our competitiveness in securing more important grants, with GRF as an unchanged focus!

I look forward to working alongside all of you as we strive to accelerate excellence in education and research!

Director and Professor
