INHERITANCE AND INNOVATION

DIRECTOR'S
MESSAGE

Dear friends, colleagues, students, and alumni,

Following the full resumption of face-to-face classes in September 2022, I’m excited to see that our CU campus is once again buzzing with students who have eagerly awaited so long for such vibrant campus life to return! In addition, I would like to warmly welcome all Nursing freshmen for joining our big family!

As the leading nursing school in Asia, our School is proud of consistently recruiting the best students with the highest admission scores among all undergraduate nursing programmes in Hong Kong funded by the University Grants Committee. We are also keen to nurture competent and compassionate nurses contributing to promoting and restoring people’s health locally and internationally. Many of our graduates are role models assuming leadership positions in both clinical and academic settings and dedicated to serving different communities with their expertise and professional attitude. I’m particularly thankful that many graduates have returned and taught at the School for long years to nurture the next generation and pass on our motto/mission in preparing for caring, competent and professional nursing leaders who serve the community with compassion. Such preparation of professional nurses starts from the Pass-it-on Ceremony for our freshmen in October/November every year co-organised with the Nethersole Institute of Continuing Holistic Health Education (NICHE).

Innovation is the key to inheritance. Our School has successfully created an environment conductive to innovative teaching and learning, research and practice. Apart from leveraging on digital technologies (e.g., virtual reality and simulation) to optimise learning for students, our faculty members are innovative and actively engaged in impactful research to explore new models/approaches to healthcare intervention (e.g., iACT or mobile health Apps for chronic illness conditions) to inform evidence-based practice or best health outcomes (see examples in our newly acquired research funding reported in this issue).

‘Excellence attracts excellence, success breeds success.’ Our School continues to be a cradle of professional and academic development and personal fulfilment of both our nursing students and staff!
