Hong Kong’s Spectacular 1st Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Booth
Dr. Connie Chong, Assistant Professor from our school, was honoured to be invited to set up the first local Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) booth at the Junior Quality Education Expo held from 9 to 11 June. This event allowed more families and various sectors of society to gain a better understanding of ACT psychotherapy approach and its effectiveness 🏡 – what an important milestone of the development of ACT in Hong Kong!
Thanks Innovation and Technology Fund for Better Living for their funding once again. Under the lead from Dr. Chong, the ACT project team has achieved phased results in supporting special needs families and providing training programs to our special needs family support frontline practitioners, including:
- Providing free parental ACT counseling services and training for special needs family support frontline practitioners: Over 800 online one-on-one ACT sessions have been provided to approximately 175 caregivers of children with special needs, and 9 workshops have been held, with nearly 300 special needs family support frontline practitioners participating, comprehensively improving the understanding and practical skills of families and professionals in ACT.
- Collaboration with non-governmental organizations in Hong Kong (NGOs): About 100 frontline practitioners have participated/are participating in the ACT supervision training provided by the ACT project team led by Dr. Chong.
- Pai. ACT’s future development: Pai. ACT is a platform based on ACT principles that uses voice-to-text and artificial intelligence technology to assess the psychological challenges faced by parents caring for children with special needs. The platform employs a ‘Stepped-Care Model’ to provide information and resources for parents of children with special needs under different circumstances. The Pai. ACT mobile app is currently in preparation and is planned to be launched this fall!
